Updates From The Build

And…We’re back.

It has been a long, silent summer, and essentially, nothing got done. However, school is back in session, and (pre)season has started up. In the coming weeks, we plan to dust off our bots, brain cells, and get driving/maintaining our bots. This naturally means weekly updates (should) start coming every week. Also, we hope to revamp our effort on the site/Facebook page and get it updated more often, meaning getting all the dirty work done before January. Man, the website gets cranky after being left alone for a month(s)! Anyways, I already realize the twitter problem (they decided to do something, and I just need to adjust our settings.) Other than that, is there any problems (browser errors, etc.) or general suggestions that might improve the site? Feel free to comment…

Hello, World (We’re not dead!)

All of us at Atlanta

Despite popular belief, team 2449 is still alive.  As many of you  know, after regionals, we had the honor of attending nationals in Georgia, Atlanta. The trip itself was amazing, and by the end we merged a strong #45 out of 85.  Now, the off-season work begins.  We hope to start some new teams, as well as raising money and awareness in our community, and drive practice. Future plans are on their way, we’ll keep you posted! Also, check out our championship picture real on Picassa:

Just Another Friday in Atlanta

TEam 2449
We’ve been so BUSY, and yet I still can’t believe we haven’t posted a single BLOG entry yet!

2449 in actionToday is a BIG day! Yesterday, Thursday, was the longest month we’ve ever spent in robotics. Harrison helped unpack the crate starting at 7:15 a.m. Then, we . . .
. . . made robot repairs and modifications
. . . passed inspection
. . . played our first practice round at 9:00 (nice job with the trident, Morgan)
. . . scouted other teams
. . . played a second practice round at 10:40
. . . scouted more teams (way to manage the scouting process, Robert!)
. . . cheered on our first qualification round at 1:06 (our alliance won the match though Scorpio was a little slow on the uptake )
. . . scouted more teams (with great determination on Monica’s, Laura’s, and Claire’s parts)
. . . played and won our second qualification round at 2:45 (we shot, and scored, and opened our climber for the first time!)
. . . celebrated at 16th place in the standings for a brief shining moment
. . . scouted some more
. . . played and won our third qualification round at 4:00 (great driving Anthony and Curtis)
. . . dare I say, scouted MORE – 71 teams total!
. . . the STUDENTS made important repairs and maintenance on the robot (yeah Patrick and Robert G!)
. . . ended the competition day in the middle of the pack, hurray!

TODAY, Friday, it’s more qualification rounds. We feel strong and capable. Be sure to catch our next qualification rounds at http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/robotics/. We are on “Curie Field”. We play at 9:49 Atlanta time (6:49 in AZ), 10:55 (7:55), 1:54 (10:54), 2:54 (11:54), and 4:54 (1:54) as long as the matches stay on track.

Morgan - let's get tough with the competition!

Morgan says, "get tough with the competition!"

It’s Out of Orbit for Team 2449!

Atlanta, day 1 and 2

Ahh, how good it feels to be in Atlanta again! The flight was really long, but it felt good once we got there! Security was surprisingly light, for getting there five hours early anyways! Once we touched down and enjoyed a pizza dinner, we finally got to sleep. Today was the first day of competition. We surprisingly did better today than our standing at the AZ regional, ranking 25/85. We won 2 out of three of our matches (during one of which we were disabled), and performed spectacularly in the one we lost. Most of the scouting was done, with only a few left to go! Our ball vortex was slightly problematic, but that was one of the only most distressing errors. Overall it was a good day! Photos and V-log to come!
